Happy Birthday to Me!!

I know this can be seen as narcissistic hype, but I'm an attention whore, so, happy birthday to me!
Yep, on this date 39 years ago, I squeezed out of my Mom's vagina in a tiny hospital in Saigon, Vietnam. One of the presents I got from my brother and sister-in-law was a shirt that was made in Vietnam, like me.

So to commemorate my birthday, here is a list of my favorite movies with birthday themes.

What? You've never heard of Happy Birthday to Me? Classic 80's gore fest. Go rent it now!!

If anyone wishes to help me celebrate my birthday, I will be at Mahi Mah's this evening. See ya there!!

AvP and Buffy news!!

Greetings!! Hope everyone had a great weekend. It was Raiders of the Lost Ark nazi face-melting hot in Virginia Beach this weekend. Then it rained. Who could ask for better weather? Maybe those demon ducks you read about, who I hear from a good source are trying to take over the Eastern seaboard.

A typical Virginia Beach resident on his way to the mall on Saturday.

If you're one of the 652 people that saw Alien Vs. Predator and thought, "Wow!! I can't wait for the sequel!!" You're in luck! Here is the trailer for Alien vs. Predator: Requiem.

For all you Buffy fans!!

Looks like "Ripper," the BBC project that will feature Giles back in his native England is moving forward. Here's the interview with Anthony Stewart Head that explains the details.

Brian K. Vaughn will write a story arc for Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8. It will be about our favorite sexy, rogue slayer Faith.

In related Faith news, Eliza Dushku has inked a new talent deal with 2oth Century Fox.

That's all for now!! If you have any interesting news you wish to share, leave a comment or shoot me an email!!

So Long Harry Potter!

I finally finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows over the weekend and I'm feeling a little bittersweet. I absolutely loved the novel!! Best one of the series. However, I'm also feeling melancholy over the end of the saga. For the past 10 years I've laughed, cried, sulked, pitied, worried, loved and bled(got a papercut turning a page) with Harry Potter. Now, it's all over. I hear that J.K. Rowling is working on a detective novel. I wonder if it's about a detective who uses magic to solve crimes? Oh well. The books may be done but at least there are still 2 more mediocre movies coming out I can look forward to.

I also saw a couple of movies last week.

Stardust-Fairy tale fun!!

High School Musical 2-Guilty pleasure.

Superbad topped the box office this weekend. Glad people went to see this hilarious film. I was worried it might not do well at the box office and get word of mouth cult status. The film makers deserve to be financially rewarded for this gem so that the studios will support them in future projects. The only drawback is that the studios will be churning out mediocre copycat movies in the hopes of slipstreaming on Superbad's financial success. I can see the pitches now:

Superweeds-Two nerdy high school students go in pursuit of chronic to impress hemp wearing babes.

Supershrooms-Two nerdy high school students search cow fields in pursuit of peyote and hot cherokee babes.

Superblow-Two nerdy high school students go in pursuit of cocaine to impress Lindsay Lohan.

Hmmm. That last movie could work.

Back to the Future no more!!

Hey everyone!! Hope you had a great weekend. Weather was spectacular over the weekend in Virginia Beach. Of course it was!! I had to work!! Stupid work. I was also trying to get Harry Potter finished, but that didn't happen. Stupid only 24 hours in a day.

Some sad news. Universal Studios Hollywood is shutting down the Back To the Future: The Ride attraction. It's a shame. Along with the Star Tours attraction at the Disney parks, this was the coolest movie related ride. Way better than the Jurassic Park ride. Stupid water rides.

My unofficial top five movie rides that suck!!

  1. The Great Movie Ride-Disney/MGM Studios
  2. E.T. Adventure-Universal Studios/Orlando(he never said my name right at the end)
  3. Kongfrontation-Universal Studios/Orlando
  4. Snow White's Scary Adventures-Disneyland(not scary)
  5. E.T. Adventure(I know I listed it once already, but it really sucks!)
Alright, I'm opening the debate floor. What rides do you like or hate?

Superbad interview.

Hey everyone!!. Just wanted to post a couple of items real quick like on the fly.

Here is an interview with Michael Cera and Jonah Hill from Superbad. The interviewer is Edgar Wright, the writer/director of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. It's scripted but harry-larious.

This one's for all you Joss Whedon fans. Joss recently hosted a dinner for five people who won a seat by bidding on eBay. All of the proceeds went to Equality Now, an international women's rights organization. One of the winners was Suzanne Brockmann, a romance novelist. She wrote about the experience on her blog. It would be totally cool to have dinner with Joss Whedon, but if I had my preference, it would be to break bread with Grover. I just want to see how he eats peas.

Ultimate Bourne

It has been an awesome week movie-wise for me. On Monday I saw Sunshine which rocked. Wednesday was the Superbad advance screening-laughed my kidney out. Then I saw the midnight showing of The Bourne Ultimatum. In a word-awesome!! This is the definitive action movie of the year!! Smart dialogue. Fight scenes that made my teeth hurt. Did you say chases? Oh yeah! There are chases. Foot chases, scooter chases, motorcycle chases, police car chases. All of them bad ass!! I bet a chase between two guys on crutches would have been exciting in this movie.

The only thing that sucked about the whole experience was the presentation. I saw it at the Regal Cinemas downtown. As soon as the lights went down, they went back up. After 10 minutes of people pitching a mad fit, the manager comes out and tells everyone that they have to replace the projector bulb. After another 10 minutes the lights go down and the trailers start. However, I notice in the bottom right corner of the screen, these white dots. So, I'm thinking "what the hell are those dots?" Then the dots grow bigger and bigger until they take up the whole screen. Then the film melts away. Just like the fake melt away Grindhouse, except for real. It was crazy!! Of course the lights go back up again and there's more people pissed off. I thought for sure it was going to be forever before they could splice the film back together, but amazingly they had the film showing again in a couple of minutes. The only good thing about the whole mess was that the management gave out readmission tickets when the movie was over. So, I basically saw the movie for free. But I would definitely fork over more scratch to see this movie again and you should too!!
