Movie Madness!!

Hope everyone had an awesome Memorial Day weekend. I know I did! You know who else did? Disney!! Pirates of the Carribean:Dead Man's Chest keel hauled in over $142 million for the 3 day weekend eclipsing the record set by X-Men 3: The Last Stand last year. That's a lot of clams. I hear Disney is using the profits to fund their next big project Mr. Toad's Wild Ride: The Movie!! Here is a breakdown of the weekend box office.

  1. Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest
  2. Shrek the Third (Parents-stop taking your kids to see this washed out franchise!! It's tired!!)
  3. Spider-Man 3 (Why?)
  4. Bug (Surprise here. I guess there's always a spot for the scary.)
  5. Waitress (If you haven't seen it, go now. It just opened in more theaters and we need to support the good indie films or they will make more Shreks and Spider-Mans.)

More Dark Knight

Here's another photo from the set of The Dark Knight. Apparently, they are going to be four action scenes shot in 70mm IMAX. This will be the first time that a major studio movie will be shot at least partly in IMAX. A few movies have been converted to IMAX from a regular negative, but that makes the picture a little stretched out. It will be interesting to see the difference on a regular projector.

More "I'm a Marvel and I'm a DC"

Have any of you caught the "I'm a Marvel and I'm a DC" video clips on YouTube? They are inspired by the Mac and PC ads from Apple and comment on each publisher's movie adaptations. They're quite humorous and clever. They are a total of 9 videos so far and a new one is premiering tomorrow. This one is my favorite.

Pearl, The Transformers,and The Joker

funnyordie.com has posted the outtakes from "The Landlord." Looks like it was a difficult shoot. Those damn child actors. Hope she got paid scale.

Yahoo! has an exclusive trailer for The Transformers. Now I know this movie is going to be a big pile of celluloid crap because this trailer is freakin' awesome!!

A new image of Heath Ledger as the Joker is floating around the web. Can this be the final look for Chris Nolan's take on the Dark Knight's arch nemesis? I know Chris Nolan's wants to give the Joker appearance "real," but this looks like the Joker has a monumentally bad case of acne.

One last bit of news today. Ain't It Cool News has posted some footage of the new Rambo movie tentatively called John Rambo. A couple of things I want to mention. Allegedly, this movie is supposed to be rated PG-13. But, after viewing this clip, I don't see how it could possibly be rated PG-13. Besides, who wants to see a PG-13 Rambo flick? I want to see Rambo feeding M-60 rounds down the throats of the entire army of Burma. Then I want Rambo to shoot some arrows through the orbital sockets of some high ranking officials. Then I want to see Rambo use that machete-knife of his to filet some general's kidneys. Then I want candy.

The other thing I want to mention about this movie is that it stars Julie Benz. Some of you may remember her as Darla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. This will be her biggest role to date (she has done a scene with Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets). I was fortunate enough to meet Julie a couple of years ago in Dallas. She's a great person and I wish her nothing but success.

6th Annual Virginia Beer Fest

Greetings! It's been a few days since my last post, but I've been busy moving and getting ready for the Summer (which means a lot of hours at the gym). I did finally take a break to participate in the hoppy extravaganza known as The Virginia Beer Festival. The weather was beautiful, the beer was foamy, and the women were buzzed. What more could you ask for?

I should be posting a bit more frequently now that things have settled down a little. The summer movie season is kicking into high gear, so I'll have some news and reviews for you as well as my ramblings on what's going on in the random world!!

Catch the Silver Wave

There's a new trailer out for The Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer. The trailer looks good which means the movie will suck a bag full of lemons. If this movie came out a year before the first Fantastic Four movie, I would be pitching a tent and a port-a-potty in front of the movie theater as soon as I saw this trailer. Now, I'm a fan of the Fantastic Four. I've read a lot of the comic books and watched the Hanna-Barbara animated series. And the Silver Surfer? I've been sporting major wood for the teflon skinned boarder since I first read Fantastic Four #48. Since then, I've read every comic that his shiny head appears in. You might be asking yourself what has happened since then to not make me want to watch this movie. It's simple really. The first Fantastic Four movie came out. Initially, I was excited that a major studio was going to do the movie and make everyone forget the piece of crap film that Roger Corman made in 1994.

The cast of the original film.

As the casting choices for the leads were announced, I wasn't too concerned that I hadn't really heard of any of the male leads. I had seen Michael Chiklis, who plays the Thing, but he was going to be covered in orange rocks, so it didn't really matter who they stuck in the suit as long as he could deliver a damn good "It's clobberin' time! Then it was announced that Jessica Alba was going to be The Invisible Girl. My fanboy excitement meter went through the roof. Never mind that in the comics, the Invisible Girl is a blond caucasian. I mean if short ass Michael Keaton can be Batman, than bring on the Latino luscious Alba. So, I eagerly awaited opening day and when it finally came, purchased my ticket and sat my asian butt down for what I thought was going to be 2 hours of geek nirvana. All I got was sick to my stomach. 20th Century Fox had screwed this movie worse than Marsellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction. Even Jessica Alba stripping naked(even though she was invisible) couldn't save this film. I wanted to find every copy of this movie and toss it down a cold, dark abyss. So I won't be seeing The Rise of The Silver Surfer(what a lame subtitle). Maybe I'll watch it on DVD. But only because Jessica Alba gives me a "rise."
