Resident Evil Feist

Some quick figures.

The Dallas Cowboys are 3-0.

My fantasy football team is 1-2.

Dane Cook and Jessica Alba are 0-1.

I can't get this Feist song out of my head.

I hope you have better luck!!

I saw Resident Evil: Extinction over the weekend. It didn't suck. If you liked the previous movies, then you should enjoy this one. If you didn't like the previous movies, well then you're probably not going to see this movie anyway.

Good things about the film:
  • Milla Jovovich is hot and kicks zombie ass.
  • Ali Larter (see above).
Bad things about the film:

As the wise totem known only as Tigger would say: "TTFN!"

Chicka, chicka, J.K. Rowling, J.K. Rowling

Everybody dig their weekend? Mine got off to a great start.

On Friday, I received a call from Scholastic Books saying that I had won two tickets to meet J.K. Rowling in New York next month. That's right!! J.K. "I write the bad ass Harry Potter novels" Rowling. She's doing a book tour next month in the states. She's only visiting three cities to do a reading from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for specially selected school children. But she is also doing a reading and book signing for 1000 fans. The fans were selected by a sweepstakes and that is what I won. I forgot I had entered the contest, so I was shocked and surprised by the call informing me that I had won!!! The event is on October 19th at Carnegie Hall. I kind of feel like I got one of the five Golden Tickets to visit Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory(diminished by a factor of 200).

Update: I was going to take my daughter to the event, but she doesn't want to go. So, I have an extra ticket. Hmmm...who should I take now?

Florida State is now 2-1.

I saw the pilot of the Bionic Woman with Amazon.com's Unbox service. It wasn't bad. The show is like Alias meets Smallville. Michelle Ryan has big boobs makes a striking Jamie Sommers despite the fact she's a brunette. I'll probably stay tuned for the boobs season.

Indy vs. Dr. Dre

Just a couple of quick items today.

Florida State is now 1-1.

The Iron-Man trailer is up. Take a peek. Looks decent, although I really wanted to see some repulser beam action.

Anybody catch Dr. Dre on the VMAs? The man has obviously been doing steroids going to the gym. He is a beast!! Also explains why Beyonce is fat, Dr. Dre is using up all the gym time.

50 cent: Damn, baby got back!!

In other VMA news, Shia LeBeouf announced the name of the new Indiana Jones movie. Drum roll please.....

It was a weird time to announce the title. Nobody at the VMAs seemed to care about the movie. Who can blame them? They probably saw Shia come on stage and decided that it was a good time to do some lines in the restroom.

I'm listening to the High School Musical 2 soundtrack and ummm I like it!!! Deal with it.

Ergonomic sex instruments. Think about it.

Peace!!

Russell versus Clive

Friday, Friday, glorious, sensational, wonderful Friday. The preceding was a paid endorsement by the Saturdays Suck Coalition.

Everyone please put your books and notes away. Time for a quiz. Let's see how well you know movies from the past 25 years. Apparently, I've seen too many movies.

FilmCritic.com - Movie Reviews

This week I saw two advance screenings for movies opening today-3:10 to Yuma and Shoot Em' Up.

Let me talk about 3:10 first. I posted earlier that this is a remake of a 1957 film. I have never seen the original(and I'm assuming most people under 40 haven't) and honestly have never heard of the film until marketing for the remake began. No one else I've talked to has seen or heard of the film. The film was never mentioned in my History of Film class in college when we covered the Western film. The film is just not part of the classic Western canon of movies. So, does it makes sense to remake a little known film for a new generation to enjoy? Obviously, somebody thought the movie was good enough to warrant a remake. The theme is familiar (and overused). An outlaw leader(Russell Crowe-the bad guy) squares off against a rancher family man(Christian Bale-the good guy). They have a journey together(to catch the train of the title) and discover that everyone has inner layers that belie their outward persona. Does it work? Yes...to a point. And that point comes about 90 minutes into the film. The final minutes of the film doesn't justify the character development of the first hour and a half. It's almost as if the filmmakers weren't sure how to resolve the movie. I can't give you any more details without spoiling it for you. Is it worth seeing? Yes. Crowe and Bale give solid performances. The narrative is smooth and even and the action is well edited and easy to follow. Is it the best Western of all time? No, not by a long shot(that honor still belongs to The Searchers). Some characters are shallow stereotypes, particularly Ben Foster's Charlie Prince and Johnny Whitworth's Darden. Nobody is surprised by their fate. So it would seem this remake will have the same reputation as the original. A good movie, but not good enough to be remembered as a classic.

Ok, now on to Shoot Em' Up. Don't see it!!

Enjoy the weekend!!

Back to School!

Hope everyone had a great labor day weekend!!

Today marks the first day of school for a lot of students. For those of you who need a little encouragement to return to school, I found this motivational video.

Ladies, see what happens if you don't complete your education? You could be Miss South Carolina-doomed to a paltry existence as a Price is Right model or even worse...Elizabeth Hasselbeck's replacement on The View. There's a lesson for the fellas too. You could be Mario Lopez-doomed to hosting beauty pageants. See, the video works on many levels. So, stay in school!!

"The tallest mountain in the world? Ummm...do you like my boobs?"

Speaking of school...Florida State got schooled by Clemson last night, 24-18. Apparently, the Clemson curse is still going strong!!

Went and saw Superbad again this weekend. Still funny!! I caught more jokes this time around which just reinforced my opinion that this is the funniest movie of the year.

Tonight I'm going to see an advance screening of 3:10 to Yuma.

That's right...Maximus takes on the Batman!! This is a remake of the 1957 film which starred Superman's Pops Glenn Ford and Van Heflin(awesome name). Should be awesome!!

That's all for today. But before I leave...what is the tallest mountain in the world from base to peak? Hint: It's not Mt. Everest.
